For World Statistics Day – 20th October 2020, the Statistics Department is advocating the importance of statistics by reaching out to the schools and not only speaking on what it does but also having Essay and Poem Competitions.
The competition is broken into 4 categories with each their own themes and prizes. The poem competition (Category 1) is only for children of primary school age (5 – 12 years) and level, while the essay competitions are for children/youths of Secondary School age (13 – 19+ years) and levels.

Competition: Poem
Theme: Statistics
Target age: 5-12 years
Target school level: Primary school
*The poem can either be in English or Tongan and last no more than 2 minutes.

Category 2
Competition: Essay
Theme: Better Data Better Lives
Target age: 13-16 years
Target school level: Form 5 and under
*The essay must be in English only with a word count limit of 1000 – 1500 words.

Competition: Essay
Theme: Unleashing the Power of Data to Change Lives
Target age: 17- 18 years
Target school level: Form 6

*Every essay and poem should be printed and submitted to our main office at Level 1, Tevita Misa Fifita Building.
*The competition is only eligible for students in Tongatapu.
