Successful Conclusion of the MICS7 Data Processing Workshop in Nuku’alofa

Nuku’alofa, Tonga – The Tonga Statistics Department, in collaboration with UNICEF, proudly announces the successful conclusion of the MICS7 Data Processing Workshop, held from 29 July to 2 August 2024. This intensive workshop brought together data processing professionals from various Pacific countries, marking a significant step forward in regional statistical capacity building.

The workshop was officially opened on Monday, 29th of July 2024, by the Australian High Commissioner to Tonga, H. E. Brek Brately, who emphasized the importance of accurate and reliable data in shaping effective policies and development strategies across the Pacific region.

Participants included representatives from the National Statistics Offices of Samoa, Kiribati, and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), along with ten participants from the Tonga Statistics Office. The primary aim was to assist these countries in preparing for the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) by focusing on key data processing activities and enhancing their proficiency in using CSPro and SPSS software.

By the end of the workshop, participants successfully developed draft CAPI systems tailored to the needs of their respective countries for the implementation of MICS7. These systems are expected to significantly enhance the data collection and processing capabilities of the participating countries.

Participants expressed their appreciation for the hands-on training and the opportunity to learn from regional experts and peers. The successful conclusion of this workshop underscores the commitment of the Tonga Statistics Department and UNICEF to support the enhancement of statistical capacities across the Pacific region.
