The Tonga Statistics Department is pleased to share the successful completion of the Statistics Bill 2026 Consultation, which was conducted over the past two weeks through visits to all seven Districts in Tongatapu starting from Kolovai, Lapaha, Tatakamotonga, Vaini, Kolomotu’a, Nukunuku, and Kolofo’ou.
The consultations raised a number of important recommendations, including strengthening the protection and confidentiality of collected data and information, as well as clarifying the functions and powers of the Tonga Statistics Department in collecting and producing official statistics for Tonga.
The Government Statistician and staff of the Tonga Statistics Department would like to sincerely express our appreciation to the District Officers, Town Officers, and all members of the community who participated in these consultation programmes. The ideas and recommendations you shared will greatly assist in improving and strengthening the Statistics Bill 2026.
As previously communicated, the Department will consolidate the feedback received from these consultations and complete the work on the Statistics Bill. It will then be submitted to Cabinet and the Legislative Assembly of Tonga before the outcomes of this work are shared with you.
