This week, the Tonga Statistics Department (TSD) commenced the rollout of detailed statistical village reports or known as the Village Profiles, based on data collected in the 2021 Population Census. The program was launched in Kolomotu’a District on Tuesday, 26 November and continued in Kolovai District on Thursday, 28 November 2024.

These reports mark the sixth series of publications from the 2021 Census, covering a total of 221 villages across Tonga, including sub-villages within larger communities such as Kolomotu’a, Kolofo’ou, and Ma’ufanga in Tongatapu, as well as Neiafu in Vava’u. To ensure accessibility, the reports are available in both Tongan and English.

The Minister, Government Statistician, and staff of TSD extend their sincere appreciation to District Officers, Town Officers, church leaders, women’s groups, and all community members who dedicated their time to participate in this important initiative. The people of Tonga are our greatest resource, and these reports—drawn from your contributions—are now being shared back to you to support community and village-level development initiatives.

The program will continue to other districts on Tongatapu for the remainder of the year and extend to the outer islands in 2025. Upcoming sessions will take place in Nukunuku District on Tuesday 2nd December and Vaini District on Thursday, 4th December 2024.

For villages already visited, the reports are now available on our website (Village Profile | Tonga Statistics Department)

Reports for other villages will be uploaded following the completion of the program in those areas.
