Tonga is one of the five countries to have implemented the Multiple Indicators Cluster Survey (MICS) in 2019. This survey covers topics and indicators related to children’s well-being, women and households, ranging from health and education to child protection and water and sanitation. As such, MICS has contributed significantly to addressing the data gaps in the country, including some of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Indicators. Out of the 232 SDGs indicators, 33 are covered by MICS.
In the past week, three of the staff from TSD attended the Pacific Regional MICS Workshop in Fiji, which was organized and funded by UNICEF. This workshop aimed to strengthen the capacities of National Statistics Offices (NSOs) to collect high-quality and disaggregated data, and improve the quality and standards of household surveys in the Pacific region through peer-to-peer learning and exchange.
